In what has been a rather dismal 2020, never before has good music been so required as a source of solace. The Street’s Michael Skinner has released one of my favorite albums of the year, thus far. Michael’s garage deadpan rap has really evolved with time. ‘None of us are getting out of this life alive’ is ‘packed to the brim’ is refreshingly modern and incorporate. I really need to submit some of these brilliant lines Skinner skillfully emits:
“Someone just met your ex thinking they met someone special” – Call my phone thinking I’m doing nothing better
“Whoever’s with my ex needs to do better, shes still texting me from 2 till 10” – Call my phone thinking I’m doing nothing better
“Then I tell you I don’t party hardly, but when I do I party hard” – You can’t afford me
“Some of us drink to be interesting, some of us drink to be interested” – None of us are getting out of this life alive
This is one of the few rap album’s I have encountered since masterpieces such as DMX’s first two albums, Snoop doggs first, 50’s first, Marshall Mathers LP, etc whereby ever track offers us something that cannot be skipped! His honest, realism, talk rap shows he has really mastered his skills over the years. The beats are incorporate modern samples, which is quite refreshing, they have depth. I do sense that in his album he may of had a recent break-up, with a large amount of ex references. His best work since A Gram Don’t come for free.
